I WALK PAST DOORS WITH NUMBERS ON THEM. BUT BEHIND EVERY ONE IS AN ENTIRE FUCKING UNIVERSE. ❤️
Imagine being 25 again.
Falling in love. Dancing until sunrise. Making terrible decisions. Building a life you think will last forever.
Now imagine being 90.
And someone who’s known you for eleven minutes thinks they know everything about you because they’ve read your care plan.
EXCUSE ME. WHAT THE ACTUAL FUCK. 💀
A care plan might tell me you need help getting dressed. But not about the dress you wore on your first date.
It might tell me your memory is fading. But not about the memories you created for everyone else.
A CARE PLAN TELLS ME HOW TO CARE FOR YOU. NOT WHO YOU ARE.
I’m 48. A vårdbiträde (Healthcare Assistant) in elderly care.
And I still think I’m 25 on a good hair day. 😂
The woman who needs help putting on her socks might once have danced on tables.
The gentleman who barely speaks might have been the funniest man at every party.
The person asking the same question seventeen times might once have had all the answers.
I don’t know all their stories.
BUT I KNOW THEY HAVE STORIES.
THEY WEREN’T ALWAYS OLD.
And more importantly?
THEY ARE STILL SOMEONE.
Not a diagnosis. Not an alarm. Not a fucking room number.
And one day, if I’m lucky, that might be ME behind that door.
Still dramatic. Still stubborn. Complaining about fluorescent lighting. Sneaking in scented candles. DJing house music for my fellow residents and flirting shamelessly with the hot young HCAs. 💀😂
Probably getting written up for excessive personality.
And I hope someone sees ME.
Not just the woman who needs help.
THE WOMAN WHO FUCKING LIVED.
So knock before entering. Learn their names. Listen. Protect their dignity.
Because needing care doesn’t mean surrendering your personality.
IMAGINE IF WE SAW THE PERSON BEFORE WE SAW THE PATIENT. ❤️
Growing old should never mean becoming invisible.
Every door is a portal to a life worth remembering.
Welcome to IMAGI-NATION. 🪞✨
